ABOUT US
So you think you want to join the Mostabear journey…
Christine founded Mostabear in 1992 and we have been quietly breeding quality dogs ever since. Our kennel, is permanently registered (perm reg'd) with the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) and is our hobby that we take very seriously. We are most active with our Newfoundlands (Christine's passion), but still have our paws in the Golden Retriever breed (Steve and MacKenzie's passion). In 2002, we introduced Bernese Mountain Dogs (BMD) to the Mostabear kennel.
We came to realize the beauty of the BMD through our best friends, Glenda Minor and Grant Harding, and have grown to love this other working breed. Although "Parker" has been used for stud services, our first "Mostabear" BMD litter was born in 2006. We are very involved in our dogs together, so much so, that Glenda and Grant have moved to river front acreage, just down the road. Glenda breeds the BMD under the Mostabear kennel name.
All our breeding stock is "Board Certified" clear of any health concerns. We obtain clearances for Hips (PennHip, OFA or OVC), Elbows (OFA or OVC), Hearts, Eyes, Cystinuria (in Newfs) and vWD (in Berners). We have written guarantees and stud service available to approved bitches only. Puppies and young adults are available occasionally with local and international bloodlines.
We have always tried to do what is best for our dogs and have enjoyed the challenges that come with this. We pride ourselves in the health and ability of the dogs we breed. We stand behind our dogs 110%, even when the written guarantee expires. We provide unlimited support throughout the lifetime of your dog. We try to keep in contact with all our puppy people, which in turn assists us in monitoring the soundness we are breeding, and where we can improve (there is always room to improve). Our goal is quality, not quantity.
"Team Grouhel" competes to obtain conformation and working titles, with multiple wins like Best Puppy in Show; Group wins and placements; Puppy Groups; High in Class; High in Trial, etc. We also handle dogs for others.
Mostabear perm reg'd is located in the West Kootenays, between Castlegar and Nelson, up Hwy 6 towards New Denver and Nakusp. We have a small hobby farm situated along the Slocan River, we call Mostabear Acres. The land is sunny and flat, with trees to provide adequate shade. The entire acreage is fenced and cross fenced to allow the dogs to be with us anywhere on the property. We converted our attached garage into our formal kennel with indoor/outdoor runs, bathing facilities, etc.. We have large dog yards for group romps and multiple individual chainlink kennel areas for those in heat or boarding dogs not wanting to play with everyone else. We also have a separate puppy area that has a wood building for shelter attached to two concrete runs, gravel and grass play areas which allow for a variety of surfaces for the pups get use to.
When you obtain a Mostabear dog, you are not just buying a puppy…you're about to venture out into an exciting journey. Should you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.
