Whether it is here at our home or while on the road at a dog event, meeting in person is essential prior to receiving your Newf. By staying in contact with us and visiting our website, we can try to keep you informed and up to date on the comings/goings of Mostabear.
Everyone must complete the Puppy Application prior to being placed on our list. Should your Application not be approved for any reason, your deposit will immediately be returned to you. On average the wait is 3-6months; however, sometimes timing is everything and we may have something immediately available that fits you and your family. Some have chosen to wait a year or more – depending upon what they are seeking. For example, waiting for a particular breeding or a particular sex, meaning if you ONLY want a male and I have a litter of all females, you are given the opportunity to adopt a female OR wait until the following litter with males is born. Some families have specific timelines for available training time that dictate which litter is right for them. Another consideration is when we are able to meet in person.
All our breeding stock is “Board Certified” clear of any health concerns. We obtain clearances for Hips (PennHip primarily now but in the past used OFA or OVC), Elbows (OFA now but in the past also OVC), Hearts, Eyes and Cystinuria. Of course temperaments are a must and we always strive to improve on conformation. Puppies and young adults are available occasionally with local and international bloodlines. We also have stud service available to approved bitches via natural, fresh chilled or frozen semen.
We converted our attached garage into our formal kennel with indoor/outdoor runs, bathing and grooming facilities, etc… We have large dog yards for group romps and multiple individual chain link kennel areas for those in heat or boarding dogs not wanting to play with everyone else. We also have a separate puppy area that has a wood building for shelter attached to two concrete runs, gravel and grass play areas which allow for a variety of surfaces for the pups to get used to.
At 8wks of age, we compare each puppy against the breed standard and grade them accordingly for their strengths vs. weaknesses. What one breeder wants/needs in their breeding program may be different from another breeder. There is no such thing as a perfect puppy, in our opinion, and recognize there is always room to improve and learn. We also assess their personalities at this time. The result from this screening process is then matched with the appropriate family, via the information you’ve provided on your Puppy Application form. Thus the reason it is imperative you are as honest as possible on your Application and not write what you think we want to hear. Otherwise, the match may not be successful. We would not want to match a high energy pup with a non active family or vice versa – it just would not work and ultimately the pup would come back to us.
By 8wks, the litter will have been wormed and had their first of a series of two puppy vaccinations. Your puppy will also be tattooed and/or microchipped approved by CKC. At approximately 9wks of age, the litter is taken to a Board Certified Cardiologist who will screen the litter for any heart conditions. Once screened and paperwork finalized, the puppies can begin to leave to join their new family. While deposits may be provided by way of personal cheque, final payment must be in the form of guaranteed funds (ie/emailed, certified cheque, money order, bank draft, cash, etc…) and must be paid 5 business days prior to the puppy leaving our premise. Shipping arrangements for your pup will be made after final payment has cleared. I have been burned significantly in the past; unfortunately, forcing me to implement this policy.
We place ALL our puppies on CKC Non-Breeding Agreements. Other arrangements may be made with foreign clients, to allow for showing; however, in those instances, a co-ownership is mandatory. Foreign clients wanting a ‘companion only’ will be provided with a Limited Registration or equivalent for their Country. This means the dog can not be shown or bred. In countries other than Canada, puppies can not be on a CKC Non-Breeding Agreement while being shown; thus the need for a co-ownership until all requirements and conditions of our Contract have been met. It will not cost you anything further to have the CKC Non-Breeding Agreement lifted if/when the time comes; however, there are strict restrictions that must be met (ie/health clearances and titles). This must work for all parties involved and this is not a first come, first serve basis.
Any puppy flying out will arrive to you C.O.D. or after shipping costs have been paid up front. We do have a limited number of “puppy crates” that can be lent to you for the flight; however, there is a $100 deposit required to reserve the crate that will be refunded to you upon return of the crate in the same condition it was sent. Otherwise, your options are to purchase a smaller crate now for the flight (pay less for the flight) and purchase a larger crate as the pup grows OR purchase a crate large enough for your adult (500 vari kennel) and send that to me in advance to send your pup home but the flight cost may be slightly higher. Either way, if you sleep with a towel or blanket and send that along with the crate, your pup will have your scent prior to meeting you for the first time.
We feed a primarily raw / natural diet to our crew based on the B.A.R.F. diet (Bones And Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) created by Ian Billinghurst, DVM. If you are interested, please check out the various links under the HELPFUL LINKS/DIET RELATED tab for researching this preferred diet.
Please feel free to email or call with any specific questions you might have. We look forward to hearing from you and having you join our Mostabear journey!
