Puppy Information

Whether it is here at our home or while on the road at a dog event, meeting in person is essential prior to receiving your Newf.  By staying in contact with us and visiting our website, we can try to keep you informed and up to date on the comings and goings of Mostabear.

All of our breeding stock is “Board Certified” and screened for any health concerns.  We obtain clearances for Hips (PennHip primarily,  but in the past we have used OFA or OVC), Elbows (OFA now but in the past we have also used OVC), Hearts, Eyes, Cystinuria and DNA tested for colour.  Of course temperaments are a must and we always strive to improve on conformation.  Puppies and young adults are available occasionally with local and international bloodlines.  We also have stud service available to approved bitches via natural, fresh chilled or frozen semen.

Off one end of our home, we built an attached, extended triple garage into our formal kennel with indoor/outdoor runs (outside heated concrete slab), bathing, grooming and kitchen facilities, etc.  We installed an air exchanger to assist with the humidity and provide constant fresh air flowing when dogs are being bathed or just hanging out.  We have six large dog yards for group romps surrounded by a large neutral zone, so they remain safe at all times.  The entire 20 ‘Mostabear Acres’ is fenced and cross fenced to enable the dogs to be with us anywhere on the acreage when we are working outside.  Our whelping room is between my office, our home kitchen and the kennel.  We had security camera’s installed so pups can be monitored anywhere and at anytime, when I am not by their side a 4’x4′ heat mat is under the flooring and is just big enough for the pups to stay warm but also allows for the Dam to move away and not become overheated.  When pups are old enough to venture outside, we have a puppy indoor/outdoor pen right outside the kennel door that can be viewed when we are inside our home or out on the deck.  Puppies will also start to mingle with the adult dogs and are monitored during these socialization times.

By 8 weeks, the litter will have been wormed and had their 1st of a series of 2 puppy vaccinations.  Your puppy will also be tattooed and/or micro-chipped as approved by CKC.  At approximately 9 weeks of age, the litter is taken to a Board Certified Cardiologist who will screen the litter for any heart conditions.  Once screened and all the paperwork is finalized, the puppies can begin to leave to join their new families.  While deposits may be provided by way of personal cheque, final payment must be in the form of guaranteed funds (i.e., emailed, certified cheque, money order, bank draft, cash, etc…) and must be paid 5 business days prior to the puppy leaving our premises.  Any shipping arrangements for your puppy will be made after final payment has cleared.  I have been burned significantly in the past and unfortunately this has forced me to implement this policy.

We place ALL of our puppies on a CKC Non-Breeding Agreement.  Other arrangements may be made with foreign clients, to allow for showing; however, in those instances, a Co-Ownership is mandatory.  Foreign clients wanting a “companion only” animal will be provided with a Limited Registration or equivalent for their Country.  This means the dog can not be shown or bred.  In countries other than Canada, puppies can not be on a CKC Non-Breeding Agreement while being shown; thus the need for a Co-Ownership until all requirements and conditions of our Contract have been met.  It will not cost you anything further to have the CKC Non-Breeding Agreement lifted if and/or when the time comes; however, there are restrictions that must be met (i.e., health clearances and titles).  This must work for all parties involved.

Any puppy flying will arrive to you C.O.D. or after shipping costs have been paid up front.  We do have a limited number of “puppy crates” that can be borrowed for the flight, however, there is a $100 (CDN) deposit required to reserve the crate which will be refunded to you upon the return of the crate in the same condition it was sent.  Your other options are to purchase a smaller crate now for the flight (pay less for the flight) and purchase a larger crate as your puppy grows OR purchase a crate large enough for your adult dog (500 Vari-Kennel) but the flight cost may be slightly higher.  You can also send me a crate you already have in advance. If doing that, include something that you have  slept with such as towel or blanket, so that your puppy will have your scent prior to meeting you for the first time.

We feed a primarily raw/natural diet to our crew based on the B.A.R.F. diet (Bones And Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) created by Ian Billinghurst, DVM. If you are interested, please check out the various links under the HELPFUL LINKS/DIET RELATED tab to research this preferred diet. We realize that feeding raw is not feasible for everyone and thus will feed a mixture of raw and kibble to enable puppies to eat either when you receive them.

Please feel free to email or call us with any specific questions you might have.  We look forward to hearing from you and having you join our Mostabear journey!
